The Illusion of Ownership, quilt, by Cheryl Savageau, Birchbark Studio
"The Illusion of Ownership is a totally improvisational take on traditional log cabin variations. I was challenged to make a quilt in 'the colors that disappear.' This has become the sister quilt to Jazz Autumn (neighboring quilt on display). The birch trees are particularly important to Abenaki people because their bark provided everything from containers, to canoes, to awikhigan, our first pictographic books, which we had long before contact with Europeans."
